SBY disappointed with '1 or 2 parties', hinting at their dismissal from Cabinet

JAKARTA LIFE'S STYLE

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed on Tuesday his disappointment over “one or two parties”' violating an agreement signed by members of the government party coalition, hinting at the possibility of ousting them from the Cabinet.

“If there are any political parties no longer willing to obey agreements they have signed, surely they can no longer work together in the coalition,” he said at the presidential office in Jakarta.

The President was referring to a memorandum of understanding signed by six parties: his Democratic Party, the Golkar Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), the National Mandate Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the United Development Party (PPP); before they formed the government coalition in late 2009.

“I’ve conducted an in-depth evaluation, from which I judge that some points of the agreement have been disobeyed or abused by one or two parties,” he added, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Yudhoyono made the statement in response to recent disagreements between coalition members regarding a legislative tax inquiry proposal seeking to scrutinize Indonesia’s taxation system.

The Democratic Party rejected the proposal, but Golkar and PKS were avid supporters of it.

The President’s statements has thus opened the possibility of removal of three Golkar ministers from the Cabinet: Chief Welfare Minister Agung Laksono, Industry Ministry MS Hidayat and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Fadel Muhammad, and four PKS ministers: Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring, Agriculture Minister Suswono, Research and Technology Minister Suharna Surapranata, and Social Services Minister Salim Segaf Al-Jufri.
