Senior lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution who is also lawyer of former taxman Gayus HP Tambunan said he is sad about the fact that a CIA can make a fool of Indonesia."If this (the CIA involvment) is true, it indicates how our country could be fooled by a CIA agent," Adnan Buyung Nasution said after the South Jakarta district court read its verdict over his client Gayus Tambunan here on Wednesday.
Gayus, a former tax official, was sentenced to seven years for tax evasion and corruption on Wednesday. After the court session Gayus made a statement accusing the task force of having played a big role in the investigation that led to his conviction.
Gayus has earlier mentioned the involvement of a CIA agent in his case whose activities were known to members of the Judicial Mafia Eradication Task Force. When he was asked whether or not he knew that the task force had reportedly asked the CIA agent to produce a Guyana passport for Gayus, he said did not know it.
"I don’t know if the Guyana passport for Gayus has been issued under the request of the task force members. Buyung admitted that he did not longer trust the task force. "The task force was formed with a good intention but if its work is like this it is terrible," he said.
