KPK grills Anggodo Widjojo for ten hours

JAKARTA LIFE'S STYLE

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned Anggodo Widjojo for ten hours on Friday in connection with a bribery attempt and obstruction of justice.

Anggodo left the KPK building at around 7.15pm, accompanied by his lawyer, Bonaran Situmeang and several staff.

He did not speak much with newsmen telling only that he had answered several questions from KPK investigators.

He promised he would be cooperative during investigation and would not escape. "No, I would not escape," he said.

Bonaran meanwhile said his client had answered 26 questions from the investigators. "The main questions total 24," he said.

He declined to explain about the substance of the questions, saying only that they did not declare any status for Anggodo because investigation is still underway.

Anggodo is the brother of Anggoro Widjojo, who was convicted by the KPK in a bribery case relating to a radio telecommunications system project at the ministry of forestry.

His name came to a spotlight after the recording of his conversations with several law enforcement officials was heard at the constitutional court, showing his alleged attempt to bribe KPK commissioners.

A Team of Defenders of People`s Anti-Criminalization Voice earlier reported Anggodo Widjojo to KPK for allegedly having hindered corruption eradication efforts.

Its representative, Sugeng Teguh Santoso, said the team had also reported Anggoro Widjojo, Putra Nevo A Prayodo and David Angka Wijaya. "They have tried to to prevent, obstruct or hinder directly or indirectly investigation, prosecution and probing of corruption crimes," he said.

Sugeng said their action was illegal as stated by Article 21 of the Law on Corruption Eradication.

He said those people were parties in the case of alleged bribery in the integrated radio communications system project.

He said according to the team those they reported had hindered KPK`s law enforcement efforts by running abroad and trying to bribe and cooperate with a number of law enforcement officials.

"This was proven by the recording heard at the constitutional court session," he said.

The Team had also asked the KPK to investigate the names of the law enforcers mentioned in the recording.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi confirmed that Anggodo`s case was still under investigation.

"Until now the case is still under investigation," he said.

He however said that the KPK would still question Anggodo again probably next Monday. "We still wish to confirm some information," he said.

He would not tell about the substance of the KPK`s investigation saying that the case is still under investigation.(ANTARA News)
