Pemecatan Alfred Riedl dari jabatan Pelatih Tim Nasional Sepak Bola Indonesia berbuntut panjang. Pelatih asal Austria itu mengancam akan mengadukan PSSI ke FIFA.Riedl dipecat dari jabatan tersebut oleh Ketua Umum PSSI Djohar Arifin Husin, Rabu (14/7/2011). Djohar beralasan, kontrak Riedl tidak dilakukan bersama PSSI, tetapi dengan Ketua Badan Tim Nasional (BTN) Nirwan Bakrie. Hal ini dibantah oleh Riedl.
"Tentu saja saya memiliki kontrak yang ditandatangani oleh anggota PSSI yang bertanggung jawab pada waktu itu," kata Riedl kepada Associated Press, Kamis (15/7/2011). "Mereka (PSSI) seharusnya tidak mengatakan ini karena hal itu justru membuat mereka terkesan tidak benar."
Mantan Pelatih Timnas Vietnam dan Laos itu menduga, pemecatan dirinya merupakan akibat dari permainan politik dari pihak-pihak yang mencampuri urusan sepak bola di Tanah Air.
"Alasan saya dipecat karena PSSI sekarang memiliki ketua umum dan anggota Komite Eksekutif baru yang semuanya berasal dari partai berkuasa dan menggantikan rezim lama, yang merupakan lawan dari partai yang berbeda. Mereka adalah orang-orang politik dan ini merupakan keputusan politik," ujarnya.
"Saya bisa membuktikan ini dan saya akan membuktikannya karena jika mereka tidak membayar (kompensasi) saya, saya akan membawa kasus itu ke FIFA," tegas Riedl.
Riedl, yang ditunjuk sebagai arsitek timnas pada 2010, dianggap berprestasi karena berhasil mengantarkan tim "Garuda" ke final Piala AFF 2010. Kepemimpinannya sempat dikritik oleh publik tatkala ia mencoret para pemain yang bergabung ke Liga Primer Indonesia.
Setelah dipecat, Riedl akan digantikan oleh pelatih asal Belanda, Wim Rijsbergen. Rijsbergen akan diberi tugas menggembleng Bambang Pamungkas dan kawan-kawan pada kualifikasi Pra-Piala 2014 melawan Turkmenistan.
