Constitutional Court Judge Takes Witness Stand in BI Case

JAKARTA LIFE'S STYLE

Constitutional Court chief judge Mahfud MD took the witness stand at the Anti Corruption Court on Thursday morning in the case against the whistle-blower in a Rp 24 billion ($2.8 million) bribery scandal tied to a Bank Indonesia appointment.

Mahfud testified that Agus had complained to him in March 2008 of a guilty conscience that he felt while working in a “corrupt environment.”

The defendant's lawyer, Firman Wijaya, has also called on staffers from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency to take the stand on Thursday.

Former lawmaker Agus Condro Prayitno is accused of receiving Rp 500 million in traveler’s checks to help elect Miranda Goeltom as Bank Indonesia’s senior deputy governor in 2004.

The former Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) turned on a number of party members who are also suspects in the case.

The court is also scheduled to hear testimonies from defendants Agus, Max Moein, Rusman Lumban Toruan and Willem Max Tutuarima, all former lawmakers from PDI-P.(http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/home/constitutional-court-judge-takes-witness-stand-in-bi-case/443302)
