Garuda Indonesia resumed its Jakarta-Malang flight on Sunday shortly after Abdul Rachman Saleh airport in Malang, East Java, was reopened."Our service for the Jakarta-Malang route returned to normal on Sunday after the issuance of Notice to Airmen (Notam) No. C0927/10 stating that Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport had resumed operation," Head of Garuda Indonesia Communications Service Pujobroto said on Sunday.
Garuda serves the route once a day with the flight number GA-290 leaving Jakarta at 7.10 a.m. and arriving in Malang at 8.40 a.m. and the flight number GA-291 returning back to Jakarta from Malang at 9.15 a.m. The national flag carrier suspended its Jakarta-Malang flights from last Tuesday to Saturday as Mount Bromo’s volcanic ash disturbed flight to Malang. Instead, all passengers destined for Malang and Jakarta were carried by Garuda plane serving Jakarta-Surabaya route.
The passengers were transported to Malang from Surabaya or the other way around using buses. Pujobroto said Garuda was planning to fly from Jakarta to Malang twice a day as of January 1, 2011 using B-737-300 plane with a capacity of 110 seats consisting of 16 business-class and 94 economic-class seats.
