BOM JW MARRIOT-RIZT CARLTON: Obama offers support for probe into terror attacks

JAKARTA LIFE'S STYLE. US President Barack Obama offered U.S. government support for the ongoing Indonesian investigation into the terrorist attacks at the J.W. Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Kuningan area, South Jarkarta, last Friday.

The US president`s offer was mentioned in a press release received by ANTARA from the US embassy here Tuesday. The bombing incidents at the two hotels killed at least nine and injured tens of others.

Obama had also spoken with Indonesia`s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to congratulate the latter on his re-election and expressed support for and solidarity with his government and the people of Indonesia in the wake of the terrorist attacks.

The US president and Yudhoyono reaffirmed the close cooperation between the United States and Indonesia in countering extremism in Southeast Asia and around the world.
Obama noted that Indonesia`s successful election on July 8 reminds the world that Islam, democracy, and diversity can coexist and thrive.

The presidents expressed support for the developing comprehensive partnership between the United States and Indonesia, and committed to intensify cooperation across a range of issues including democracy promotion, educational exchange, and climate change.(*
