JAKARTA LIFE'S STYLE. WS Rendra's funeral will be held today at his art workshop compound, known as Bengkel Teater, in Depok, West Java, after Friday prayers. The family is still unsure of the exact time because they have to wait for some of Rendra's children who live in Kalimantan and Yogyakarta to arrive.

Rendra's grave will be ten meters apart from his best friend's grave, the recently deceased reggae musician, Mbah Surip.

"Rendra had prepared the plot years ago. He wished to be buried under a shady tree," Rendra's brother-in-law, Iwan Burnani, told Antara news agency.

Among the mourners are the Transportation MInister Djusman Syafii Djamal, musician Iwan Fals and Paramadina University rector's Anis Baswedan.

"Mas Willy was very humanist," Djamal told TV One. "He dedicated his life to art and he was very critical of social realities."

Iwan Burnani told Antara that Rendra had spent two months in the hospital for heart and kidney problems. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday. On Thursday night he was rushed back in to a hospital in Depok and died at around 10 p.m., less than two hours after he was admitted in a weak condition, a hospital staff member said.
