President Yudhoyono arrives in Thailand

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his entourage arrived at Hua Hin in Thailand on Saturday to attend the 15th ASEAN Summit.

The presidential aircraft arrived at Hua Hin airport, some 200 km south of Bangkok, at 11:15 local time on Saturday morning.

President Yudhoyono`s entourage in the visit was made up of Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Tourism and Culture Minister Jero Wacik, Agriculture Minister Suswono and would-be head of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan.

From Hua Hin airport, President Yudhoyono and his entourage made their way to Grand Pacific Hotel were they would stay during the Asean Summit.

The ASEAN summit was opened by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday, October 22, 2009, to discuss the economic crisis and boost small and medium scale businesses which were able to survive the recent global economic crisis.

The Association of South East Asian Nations Summit would also endorse the establishment of an ASEAN human rights body, called the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR).

At 2:15 local time on Saturday afternoon the president would attend the summit of the 12th heads of state/government of ASEAN+3 (Japan, China, and South Korea) at Dusit Hotel

Later at 4 p.m. the Indonesia president would attend the 7th meeting of the state leaders ASEAN and India, and then to attend Gala Dinner hosted by Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Phetchaburi Grand Hall, Holiday Inn Resort, in the evening.

After that, Yudhoyono would attend the 4th East Asian leadership meeting on Sunday, October 25, 2009 which is to be participated in by the heads of state/government of ASEAN+3 and India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Presidential spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said issues to be discussed in the summit included a proposal by Singapore on inter-ASEAN infrastructure development, food and energy security, financial crisis, climate change and disaster management.

The the Heads of State/Government of ASEAN would announce the `Cha-am Hua Hin Declaration on the Inauguration of the AICHR` to pledge full support to this new ASEAN body and emphasize their commitment to further develop cooperation to promote and protect human rights in the region.(ANTARA News)
