The Indonesian community of internet users are called on to join the campaign run for helping Prita Mulyasari, a mother of two, who is now undergoing court processes due to alleged defamation case."The calculation as to how much coins have been collected is not yet carried out. The action actually underscores people's support to Prita instead of the sum gathered," said a spokesperson of blog community Ari Juliano on December 5.
He then said that the official publication will only take place today, Dec 7.
The action is expected of arousing the awareness of the public as well as law enforcers on the case.
The 'support-Prita' blog is the only information center for the social action now.
It is emphasized that before the Supreme Court passes any verdict on Prita case, the needed coins should be amassed, in an effort to aid Prita pays her fine of around Rp 204 million.
"We share the same spirit which is against an abusive power aiming at rubbing out freedom of speech through criminalization," he said.
He went on by saying that, "today, the victim is Prita. We never know who will be the next."
Prita Mulyasari is alleged of defaming Omni Internasional Alam Sutra, Serpong, Tangerang, by virtue of an email. The ordeal began as she sent an e-mail message complaining about the poor treatment she received at a hospital to 20 relatives, friends and co-workers.
The message, forwarded from one mailing list to another, eventually fell into the hands of the hospital’s lawyers, who sued for defamation.
In no time, Ms. Mulyasari, 32, found herself sharing a jail cell with murderers and facing six years in prison, seemingly yet another ordinary Indonesian caught up in one of the world’s most corrupt legal systems.(VIVAnews)
